FAQ

Sunny spring days were made for ball hockey!

Are you interested in an exciting outdoor sport for your son or daughter? The North York Lynx Ball Hockey League offers a way to get your kids “off the street” and into an organized ball hockey league. Enjoy healthy, competitive fun from April through June! Here are some commonly asked questions about our ball hockey league. If you need more information, please drop us a note at northyorklynx@rogers.com or call us at (416) 258-1802.

Questions & Answers

A. NO! This is the same game you may play on the street in front of your house … except without the worry of cars! The great thing about organized ball hockey is that it teaches hockey skills to beginners, while reinforcing the game in a non-contact environment to more experienced players. Either way, you won’t have to worry about any skating skills, as it’s played in running shoes, on an outdoor concrete rink.

A. You’ll need comfortable running shoes, a wood or composite hockey stick, hockey gloves, soccer shin guards, and a CSA-approved hockey helmet with a full facemask. “Street hockey” helmets are not permitted. We also recommend a mouthguard, elbow and knee pads, and an athletic cup for extra protection.

A. Games will be played on the outdoor rink at Broadlands Community Centre, 19 Castlegrove Blvd., north of Lawrence Avenue East, and west of Victoria Park Ave.

A: Parents are often concerned that their child’s sports schedule might overlap their summer vacation time. Our spring schedule addresses this concern by ensuring that the league wraps up before school does, so that kids (and their parents!) are free to pursue other summer activities. Our season runs on Saturdays and some Sundays, weather permitting, throughout April, May and June.

A. The cost is $150 until February 29th, and $160 thereafter. This includes all supervised game times, a North York Lynx Ball Hockey jersey, and a memento of the season.

A. All players register as individuals. Teams will be created and balanced based on the skill level submitted on the players’ registration forms. That being said, all attempts will be made during the creation of teams to honour requests to play with a friend, as long as the team skill levels balance. Please note that teammate requests are not guaranteed. Also, player movement from one team to another is possible during the season, and your cooperation is appreciated should this involve your son or daughter.

A. Complete and return your registration on our Homepage as soon as possible. In the event a division is full, please send an email to northyorklynx@rogers.com as soon as possible, requesting that your child be added to our waiting list. Include the child’s name and birthdate in the email. Should a spot open up, you will be notified and you can confirm at that time if you still want the spot.

A. The President of the North York Lynx is Greg Tedesco, who can be reached at (416) 258-1802, or by e-mail here.

A: To obtain a refund, you must submit an email showing your name, your child’s name and birthdate, and the email associated with your child’s registration. Refunds after the first or second week will be pro-rated. No refunds will be granted after the player’s third session. All refunds are subject to a $20 administrative fee.
